David Edwards is a Clinical Psychologist and an Emeritus Professor at Rhodes University, South Africa, where, for over 25 years, he taught cognitive-behavioural therapy (including schema therapy) to trainee clinical and counselling psychologists. Since his retirement at the end of 2009 he continues to work as a researcher and research supervisor. He presents basic and advanced training workshops in schema therapy locally and internationally and has an active private practice offering psychotherapy and clinical supervision. He was President of the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) from 2016-2020. He has over 100 academic publications, several of which have schema therapy as a main focus. He has also contributed to the ISST’s Schema Therapy Bulletin on the Self Pity/Victim mode (May 2015), and on the deep structure of schema modes (October 2019). His most recent article on using schema modes for case conceptualization was published in Frontiers in Psychology in 2022.
